Office Shelf

For some time ago I had three Lack shelves, one white, one yellow and one blue from Ikea. They were stored with no specific purpose. Since I was in need of a shelf for the office, i create a stand and recycle them. For this I used three 4cm by 4cm of pine.

First I cut all the pieces to the correct measurement. It was necessary to create two sides with a zone to fit the shelfs and a connection between them. In total it was necessary twelve parts.

Then I applied a color to the wood to become darker using a Robbialac’s wood stain and letting it dry for two hours.

In the meantime, i prepare the shelves. As they had a varnish finish it was necessary to sand it to allow the primer to stick. Then I applied a coat of primer and wait that dries approximately 30 minutes.

To mount the sides, fix one of the pieces with a clamp and from there assemble the rest. For the wood don’t crack I initially made a pilot hole, then place a screw.

For the second side, I used the first one as a model for the beams to be at the same distance and repeat the assembly process.

Then I fixed the parts that join both sides.

Before finalizing the shelves I tested to check the measurements. To finish off the shelves, I applied semi glossy black spray.

At the time of installation I realized that there was no place to pass the various cables. Since the creation of the slots with a router didn’t work, I used a saw for wood and make the slots manually.

Finally put the various shelves in place. Before being pushed back it was necessary to pass the various cables in the slots created.
